In conjunction with the 2026 T20 World Cup, legendary former player Lasith Malinga is set to rejoin the Sri Lanka cricket team as the Fast Bowling Coach and Consultant.

According to the latest reports, he will officially link up with the squad on February 5th.

Malinga's appointment is primarily targeted at the four crucial preliminary round matches that Sri Lanka faces. In this World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the Lions are competing in Group 'B' and are scheduled to play the following matches:

February 8: vs Ireland (in Colombo)

February 12: vs Oman (in Pallekele)

February 16: vs Australia (in Pallekele)

February 19: vs Zimbabwe (in Colombo)

This is not Malinga's first stint with the team this season. Previously, as part of the World Cup preparations, he served as a consultant coach for a one-month period from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026. During that tenure, he played a significant role in refining the technical skills and mental consistency of the bowlers.
