The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy is set to arrive in Jaffna today as part of the Sri Lanka leg of its nationwide promotional tour ahead of the global tournament.
The trophy convoy departed Dambulla early this morning and is making scheduled stops at Mihintale, Vavuniya, and Kilinochchi before reaching Jaffna this afternoon. A formal welcome is planned near the Jaffna Kachcheri at around 3.30 pm.
Following the ceremony, the trophy will visit key local landmarks, including the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple, Duraiappa Stadium, Jaffna Fort, and the Jaffna Public Library. The stop at Duraiappa Stadium is expected to attract significant attention, highlighting the venue’s role in the region’s sporting revival.
The tour aims to engage cricket fans across the country and celebrate Sri Lanka’s co-hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, bringing the tournament’s coveted trophy closer to communities nationwide. The Jaffna segment will conclude later tonight at the Public Library.
