Residents of Niyamgamdora have alleged that several houses in their village have become unsafe for habitation due to the risk of landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, with no responsible government officials visiting the area to assess the damage.
The villagers said they were compelled to return to their homes after staying in temporary shelters for several days, only to find that many houses had partially collapsed or developed severe structural damage. They claim it is extremely dangerous to continue living in these houses, yet neither the Grama Seva Officer of the division nor other relevant officials have carried out inspections.
According to the residents, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has instructed them to evacuate if rainfall exceeds 150 millimetres. They further stated that nearly 25 houses currently identified as being at risk of landslides are facing the danger of wall collapses.
Affected families said that despite repeated directives issued by the President to provide relief, facilities, and financial assistance to all those impacted by Cyclone Ditwa, certain government officials have failed to visit the area to assess housing damage or determine the ongoing landslide risk.
The villagers urged the authorities to conduct immediate inspections and take urgent action to ensure their safety and provide necessary relief assistance.
