The government has unveiled plans to improve the quality of early childhood education nationwide, ahead of the 2027 implementation of the National Policy on Preschool Education, Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savitri Paulraj said today (29).
Addressing a discussion on early childhood care and development in Ratnapura District, Minister Paulraj highlighted key initiatives, including upgrading the physical infrastructure of early childhood centers, standardizing preschool teacher services, and raising the overall quality of education for young children.
The Minister also presented a comprehensive overview of the National Curriculum Framework for Early Childhood Development, which lays out the steps for strengthening the sector.
A special session allowed preschool teachers and early childhood officers to raise concerns and share suggestions for improving service delivery. Many participants discussed the challenges they face in providing effective care and offered proposals to enhance early childhood education standards.
Minister Paulraj assured that their feedback would be taken into account as the government moves forward with efforts to modernize early childhood education and provide better support for both teachers and children across the country.
