The six police officers attached to the Gampaha Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau’s Combat Motorcycle Squad, who were arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a Catholic priest, were released on bail today (29) by the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.

When the case was taken up, the Magistrate ordered that each suspect be released on a surety bond of Rs. 500,000. The court also imposed a travel ban on the officers and directed that their suspension from service be further enforced, according to Ada Derana court correspondent.

During an identification parade held in relation to the incident, the priest identified three of the arrested police officers. He stated that one of the identified officers was responsible for the alleged assault, while the other two were present at the scene as bystanders.

The Magistrate scheduled the next hearing of the case for April 30.
