Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala has been appointed as the new Director of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit, Police Headquarters announced today.
ASP Olugala previously served at the Western Province (North) Crimes Division, where he was involved in several operations targeting organized crime. He gained public attention for leading a special operation in Indonesia, carried out in coordination with local authorities, which resulted in the arrest of several underworld figures, including “Kehelbaddara Padme” and “Commando Salintha”.
During his tenure at the Western North Crimes Division, ASP Olugala led multiple operations against organized criminal networks. Following the Indonesia operation, he had also raised concerns regarding alleged information leaks within the police force that may have compromised sensitive investigations.
The Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit, also known as the Walana Vice Squad, operates directly under the Inspector General of Police. The unit is responsible for conducting island-wide raids targeting illegal activities such as gambling, prostitution, illicit liquor production, and narcotics-related offences. It has the authority to operate across police divisions and is often deployed for special operations requiring centralized coordination.
