Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe appeared before the Fort Magistrate’s Court a short while ago in connection with a case filed under the Public Property Act.

The case pertains to allegations that Mr. Wickremesinghe misused government funds to travel to London to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithri Wickremesinghe, during his tenure as President.

In relation to the complaint, the former President had previously arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department on August 22 last year to provide a statement. He was subsequently arrested, produced before court, and ordered to be remanded until August 26.

After considering the medical reports submitted on behalf of Mr. Wickremesinghe, Fort Magistrate Ms. Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three personal bails of Rs. 5 million each.
