The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a warning that air pollution levels across Sri Lanka could rise temporarily over the next two to three days due to polluted winds blowing from the northern region.
Currently, air quality across most parts of the country remains moderate. However, slightly unhealthy conditions have been reported in Jaffna and Puttalam. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is forecasted to range between 58 and 114 over the next 24 hours, indicating continued moderate levels in most cities, with the northern and western districts remaining more vulnerable.
Authorities have advised the public to wear face masks where possible. People with respiratory issues or other sensitivities are urged to seek immediate medical attention if they experience breathing difficulties.
