Wadduwa Police said 35 live rounds of ammunition used for T-56 firearms were discovered hidden inside a cupboard at the residence of an Air Force Corporal in Wadduwa.
Police said the discovery was made following a tip-off received by the Crime Branch of the Wadduwa Police regarding the possession of live ammunition at the home of an Air Force Corporal attached to an Air Force base in the Kompannaveediya area.
Accordingly, officers conducted a search of the suspect’s residence in the Molligoda area of Wadduwa, where the ammunition was found concealed inside a cupboard.
Police stated that a woman residing at the house, when questioned, claimed that the cupboard was used by her husband and that she was unaware of his current place of work.
The relevant Air Force base has been informed of the incident, and police said further legal action will be taken after recording statements from the suspect.
