A Parliamentary Special Committee appointed to inquire into the release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port without mandatory physical inspection has decided to conduct its investigations every Wednesday at 2.00 p.m.
The decision was taken at the committee’s inaugural meeting held on January 21, 2026, under the chairmanship of Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara.
Accordingly, the committee is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow (Wednesday, January 28) at 2.00 p.m. to continue its investigations.
During the meeting, preliminary discussions were held on the methodology of the inquiry and the parties to be summoned before the committee. Members of Parliament expressed their views and suggestions regarding the future course of action.
The Chairman stated that the committee expects to conclude its investigations within a period of three months and submit a comprehensive report along with recommendations.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka; Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe; Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala; Deputy Minister of Power and Energy Arkam Ilyas; and Members of Parliament Attorney-at-Law Dayasiri Jayasekara, Ajith P. Perera, D.V. Chanaka, Mujibur Rahman, Mylvaganam Jegatheeswaran, and Attorney-at-Law Lakmali Hemachandra.
