Police said that six police officers attached to the Gampaha Police Divisional Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB), who were arrested and later remanded in connection with an alleged assault on a Catholic priest, have been interdicted.

The officers were taken into custody and remanded following a complaint lodged by the priest regarding the alleged incident.

According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday night along the Kirindiwita–Udugampola Road when the officers ordered a motorcyclist to stop. When the motorcyclist reportedly failed to comply, the officers pursued and arrested him.

During the arrest, a heated argument ensued between the officers and the motorcyclist, who was later identified as a 33-year-old Catholic priest. He subsequently admitted himself to the Negombo Hospital, alleging that he had been assaulted by the police officers.

Police said that investigations into the incident are continuing.
