Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Eastern and Uva provinces, and in the Hambantota district.
The Department of Meteorology says a few showers may occur in the North-Central and Eastern provinces today.
Showers or thundershowers are also expected at a few places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 p.m.
Misty conditions are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the early morning hours.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Around the Island
Mainly fair weather is expected to prevail over the sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours.
Winds will be north-easterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Mannar via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Accordingly, the sea areas off these coastal stretches may be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island are expected to be moderate. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant.
