The Railway Department has commenced the training of newly appointed train drivers today (26), featuring state-of-the-art facilities at the German Institute of Industrial Technology in Ratmalana.
The new training setup includes one simulator cabin, eight training desks, and six observation desks, installed at a cost of €1.1 million. The advanced equipment is designed to enhance the quality of driver training and significantly reduce the duration of training, which previously extended over three years.
Officials said the initiative aims to equip drivers with practical skills efficiently, ensuring safer and higher-quality railway services for the public.
