Police Special Task Force (STF) officers have arrested a close associate of Welioya Priyantha and SF Jagath—both suspected of involvement in organized crime and large-scale drug trafficking and currently hiding overseas—with over three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice).
During the arrest, STF officers seized 3 kilograms and 16 grams of ice, along with a mobile phone and two electronic weighing scales. Police said the street value of the seized narcotics exceeds Rs. 30 million.
The suspect was apprehended during a raid carried out using a makeshift roadblock on Ridgeway Place, within the Bambalapitiya Police Division, while he was travelling on a motorcycle. Following further questioning, officers searched a residence in the Wellawatte area, where additional narcotics and related paraphernalia were recovered.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
