A complaint has been lodged with the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption (CIBC) concerning a house valued at approximately Rs. 400 million on Tarrington Mawatha, Colombo 05, allegedly purchased in the name of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife, Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

The complaint, filed by a civil society activist, claims that the house was purchased in Mrs. Rajapaksa’s name after Mr. Rajapaksa assumed the presidency, despite the family residing there since 2001. The complainant has requested a formal investigation, citing serious suspicions about the source of funds used to buy the property.

The Commission has initiated a special inquiry into the matter and has already recorded statements from the complainant to verify the facts. The next step in the investigation is expected to include obtaining a statement from Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
