The Colombo Crimes Division has informed Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that Ishara Sewwandi, previously arrested in connection with the murder of Ganemulla resident Sanjeewa, will be detained for an additional 90 days for further questioning.
The move follows a presentation by the Colombo Crimes Division to the court, noting that the current 90-day detention order against Sewwandi is set to expire on 15 January 2026.
Authorities also revealed that eight suspects in the case remain abroad and that steps are being taken to issue international Red Notices for their arrest. Among those targeted are the 29th suspect Sampath Ashen, 32nd suspect Batuwanthe Chamara, 33rd suspect Dubai Sudda, and Shan Arosh, also known as Mathugama Shan. The Red Notices will be prepared in English to facilitate international enforcement.
During the court proceedings, four suspects appeared in person, while the others participated via Zoom technology. All suspects related to the case have been remanded until 6 February 2026.
