The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has decided to introduce a new set of rules and regulations aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted operation of telephone and internet services during emergency situations.
Director General of the TRCSL, Retired Major General Bandula Herath, said the initiative is intended to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response during emergencies caused by natural disasters or human-related activities.
He noted that reliable communication services are critical during crises for coordination, public safety, and the dissemination of vital information, and the proposed regulations will help manage such situations more effectively.
