A 51-year-old woman has been killed and two others injured in a road accident on the Southern Expressway, police said.
The accident occurred when a car travelling from Colombo to Mattala veered off the road, struck a left-side guardrail, and overturned.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Wattala. Two other passengers, aged 30 and 36, sustained injuries and were admitted to the Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Hospital sources said one of the injured is in serious condition.
Police suspect the accident occurred after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The Pinnaduwa Traffic Police are conducting further investigations.
