Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni has called on health sector trade unions to engage in dialogue to resolve their issues without inconveniencing patients, stating that both politicians and trade unions are ultimately engaged in political action.
Addressing an event held today (24) in Meegammanawatte, Wattegama, Dr. Wijayamuni said, “As politicians, we do politics. As a trade union, what you are doing is also politics. Leave the patients out of it. Let us meet on the political stage and resolve the issues there.”
He emphasized that as a mature trade union with a history of over 100 years, it would be more appropriate to settle disputes through discussions rather than causing hardship to patients.
The Deputy Minister made these remarks while attending as the Chief Guest at the opening of an Ayurveda Wellness Centre in Meegammanawatte.
The event was held in parallel with a national programme organized by the Ministry of Health to vest 42 Ayurveda Wellness Centres across the country with public ownership, with the Kandy District programme taking place in Meegammanawatte.
