The central hills are grappling with extremely cold and dense foggy conditions that have continued to disrupt daily life and traffic, officials report.
For the past 24 days, watershed areas on the western slopes of the central hills have experienced persistent cold weather accompanied by heavy fog, significantly reducing visibility on major roads. The Hatton–Nuwara Eliya and Hatton–Colombo main roads, along with several smaller by-roads, have been particularly affected.
Traffic authorities from the Hatton Police Division have urged motorists to drive cautiously, maintain low speeds, and keep headlights on when navigating these fog-prone areas.
Meanwhile, frost has been reported in several parts of Nuwara Eliya, further intensifying the effects of the cold spell on the region.
Authorities have warned residents and travelers to remain alert as these challenging weather conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
