Patients across the country continued to face significant inconvenience today (24) as the 48-hour token strike launched by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) entered its second day.
The trade union action, which began yesterday, has disrupted normal hospital services, affecting those seeking medical treatment. The GMOA says the strike was initiated due to the authorities’ failure to implement previously agreed solutions to six demands, including revisions to doctors’ DAT allowances as well as transportation and research allowances.
Amid the ongoing disruption, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa informed Parliament yesterday that the strike action is unjustified, emphasizing the government’s position on the matter.
