The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha has recovered LKR 197.7 million in compensation during 2025 for the next of kin (NOKs) of Sri Lankan nationals who passed away in Qatar.

Of the total amount, LKR 23.6 million was directly paid to the NOKs through the Embassy’s efforts, while LKR 174.1 million was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in Colombo for onward disbursement. Several of these payments were linked to cases pending since 2014.

The recovery was carried out through close coordination between Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Qatar, Sithara Khan; Minister of the Embassy, Dharmasiri Wijewardane; and Translator, M. R. M. Fiyas, working with the relevant companies, the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry, the Government of Qatar, and the legal firm engaged by the Embassy.

In 2024, the Embassy recovered LKR 172.99 million in compensation, which was successfully disbursed to the NOKs in Sri Lanka.
