Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa said that appropriate laws should be formulated to regulate propaganda carried out on social media that affects the public across all sectors.
The Minister made these remarks while expressing his views in Parliament today (22).
He pointed out that misleading propaganda related to Ayurvedic products and certain treatment methods circulated on social media can already be regulated under existing laws.
However, Minister Jayatissa said that there is currently no comprehensive legal framework in the country to regulate social media content that impacts the public across all sectors. He said that this gap could be addressed by introducing new laws to effectively control such activities.
