The Sri Lanka Navy has commenced construction of a new cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Hambantota District General Hospital.
The project was officially inaugurated on January 15 with a ceremonial event, marking the beginning of a significant healthcare infrastructure development for the Southern Province. The Navy is providing technical expertise and engineering support for the construction.
Funding for the project has been generously provided by a Sri Lankan philanthropist couple currently based in the United States, reflecting continued overseas support for the country’s health sector.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior representatives from the Sri Lanka Navy and the health sector, including Commodore Aruna Weerasinghe and Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena.
Once completed, the new facility is expected to greatly enhance cardiac care services in the Hambantota region, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized treatment.
