The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has urged the public to exercise caution as haze-like conditions persist across several parts of the country, attributing the phenomenon to poor air quality rather than fog.
CEA Media Spokesperson Ajith Gunawardena told reporters that the haze is caused by the buildup of polluted air particles in the atmosphere, resulting in reduced visibility and a mist-like environment in affected areas.
He emphasized that the decline in overall atmospheric quality can pose health risks, particularly to children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. The CEA has called on citizens to monitor air pollution levels and take appropriate safety measures, such as limiting outdoor activities during peak haze periods.
Gunawardena also highlighted the need for increased awareness and proactive action to reduce pollution sources and improve air quality nationwide.
