The Galgamuwa, Nikaweratiya, and Pilessa Magistrates’ Courts have imposed a total fine of Rs. 950,000 on three private pharmacies found operating in violation of the Drug Regulatory Authority’s regulations.
The cases involved charges of selling medicines without a doctor’s prescription, operating pharmacies without a valid license, and running a pharmacy without employing a qualified pharmacist.
A pharmacy in Nikaweratiya that pleaded guilty was fined Rs. 300,000, while a pharmacy in the Thalgaspitiya area of Ambakote received a Rs. 500,000 fine. Another pharmacy in Galgamuwa, which also admitted to the charges, was fined Rs. 150,000.
The courts’ actions highlight ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with pharmaceutical regulations and safeguard public health.
