Police have launched an investigation following a complaint received by the Peradeniya Police regarding an assault on a group of students from the University of Peradeniya.
According to police, the incident occurred on the 15th when the students had gone to bathe in a stream in the Weli Hiriya area of Peradeniya. An argument reportedly broke out between the students and a group of individuals who were consuming alcohol at the location, which later escalated into a physical assault.
As a result of the attack, four students have been admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital for treatment.
Police have arrested three suspects in the Kiribathkumbura area, while another suspect surrendered at the Peradeniya Police Station. The suspects are aged 30 and 31 and are residents of Asgiriya, Gothatuwa, and Kandy.
The suspects were produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court today (16) and have been remanded until the 29th.
