A fire that broke out in the Hagarang Oya forest reserve within the Nawalapitiya Police Division has destroyed approximately two acres of land.
The blaze is believed to have started due to the prevailing dry weather conditions in the area, particularly affecting the water catchment and purification zones managed by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board in Nawalapitiya.
Police officers from the Nawalapitiya Police Station, together with local residents, worked swiftly to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.
Police have requested the public to immediately report any individuals involved in setting fire to forest reserves or protected areas, as such acts pose a serious threat to the environment and water resources.
