Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara stated that the government is not merely reforming education but is engaged in a complete transformation of the education system.
Responding to a journalist’s question on new education reforms, he said the goal is to create a modern, child-centered education system that eliminates existing inequalities and shortcomings.
“We are transforming education, not just reforming it. We need an education system that produces creative, compassionate and knowledgeable children who can face the challenges of the modern world,” he said.
The Deputy Minister acknowledged that there are shortcomings in the current education modules but assured that necessary corrections would be made.
He further stated that even if certain programs are temporarily halted, the government plans to introduce a comprehensive education transformation program from next year.
Gunasekara accused the opposition of misleading the public over education policies and stressed that the government remains committed to strengthening the education sector for the benefit of future generations.
