The 20-megawatt Mannar Windscape wind power plant was officially inaugurated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This project marks a historic milestone in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, as it is the country’s first wind power plant to be developed using 5-megawatt (5MW) capacity wind turbines under either the public or private sector.

The power plant has been implemented by a fully local Sri Lankan company, highlighting the growing capacity of domestic firms to undertake large-scale renewable energy projects.

The Mannar Windscape project is expected to contribute significantly to the national power grid while supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards sustainable and clean energy sources.
