A major petrol station in Beruwala was raided last night (January 14) after the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) received complaints that some stations were selling Euro 3 petrol at higher prices while claiming 92 petrol was unavailable.
Officers from the Kalutara District CAA conducted a surprise inspection and discovered nearly 6,400 liters of 92 petrol hidden at the station instead of being supplied to customers.
During the raid, officials at the station admitted that they had been instructed by company management to sell Euro 3 petrol at night while falsely claiming that 92 petrol was out of stock.
The seized fuel has been taken into custody and sealed by authorities, and further investigations are ongoing. Cases against the station and responsible parties are scheduled to be filed at the Kalutara Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
The CAA warned other fuel stations against similar practices, emphasizing its commitment to fair fuel distribution and protecting consumer rights.
