Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that digital transformation in education must be implemented in a manner that ensures child safety and equal access for all students.
Speaking at the official launch of the Education Digitalization Program at the Ministry of Education yesterday, she said the government is carrying out the responsibility of developing a well-regulated digital education system alongside ongoing education reforms.
“Developing digital infrastructure in schools is a key objective of education reforms. Schools that lack digital facilities must be identified and upgraded so that every student can enjoy equal educational opportunities,” the Prime Minister stated.
She further noted that when technology is integrated into education, teaching methods must be designed in a way that suits the mindset of children and safeguards them from potential online risks.
Dr. Amarasuriya stressed that the new program, implemented with Chinese grant assistance, is focused on building a structured and protected digital learning environment rather than merely supplying electronic devices.
Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Engineer Eranga Weeraratne, along with senior officials from both ministries, were also present at the event.
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in reducing digital inequality among schools and preparing Sri Lankan students for a technology-driven future.
