The government has allocated Rs. 46.3 million for the development of the Thoraya–Narampola rural road in the Mawathagama electorate, aiming to improve connectivity between villages and Kurunegala town.
The 1.8-kilometre stretch, which links the Wellawa–Dambulla main road with surrounding rural communities, will be carpeted and developed as a priority road. The project will be implemented by the Road Development Authority using its direct labour force under the supervision of the North Western Province Director General’s Office.
The project was launched today in the presence of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and Leader of the House, Mr. Bimal Ratnayake, marking another step in the government’s rural infrastructure development programme.

A large gathering of local leaders, officials and residents took part in the launch of the Thoraya–Narampola rural road development project in the Mallawapitiya Divisional Secretariat area today.
Among those present were Kurunegala District National People’s Power Parliamentarian Dharmapriya Dissanayake and Road Development Authority North Western Provincial Director Athula Senadheera. Officials from the North Western Provincial administration and community members also attended the event.
The project will see a 1.8-kilometre section of the road upgraded and carpeted, improving access between villages, the Wellawa–Dambulla main road and Kurunegala town, with funding of Rs. 46.3 million provided by the government.
