Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and Leader of the House, Mr. Bimal Ratnayake, said that the government is committed to developing rural infrastructure without political discrimination, while addressing the launch of the Thoraya–Narampola road development project.
Speaking at the ceremony in the Mawathagama electorate, the Minister said funds are being provided for village-based development regardless of party affiliation, whether SJB, SLPP or TNA. He said public money that was previously misused is now being protected and redirected for the benefit of the people.
Referring to the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwa, Minister Ratnayake said the disaster had severely affected the national budget, but the government is carrying out a focused programme to rebuild damaged infrastructure through proper disaster management. He also called on the public to support what he described as a national renaissance programme aimed at serving the common good.
