A road accident occurred in the Navadankulama area of Mundalama when a car and a van collided head-on, police said.
Three people, including two women, were killed in the accident. A further ten people sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
