A couple allegedly in possession of five counterfeit Rs. 5,000 currency notes were arrested by officers of the Kalutara District Crime Division on the 9th at Nagas Junction in North Kalutara.
Police said the suspects are residents of the Kitulawa area in Kalutara.
Investigations have revealed that the couple had previously been arrested by the Kalutara North and Kalutara South Police in connection with the printing and possession of counterfeit currency notes. On those occasions, printing machines used to produce fake notes were also taken into custody.
Police further said that cases related to the earlier arrests are currently being heard at the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court. Further investigations into the latest incident are continuing.
