The Colombo High Court has fixed January 27 for the hearing of the case filed against former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and six other defendants over the alleged misuse of government funds.
The order was issued by High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga, who also directed that two witnesses appear before court on the next hearing date. Summons have been issued accordingly.
The indictment, filed by the Attorney General, alleges that between December 26, 2014, and January 26, 2015, a sum of Rs. 6,146,110 belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was unlawfully spent under the guise of providing flood relief, resulting in the misappropriation of public funds.
At the time of the alleged offence, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa was serving as the Minister of Petroleum Industries. The case has been filed under five separate charges, naming Yapa, his spouse, and five others as defendants.
