The Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha, Kasun Munasinghe, who was remanded in custody in connection with an alleged assault on the Secretary of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha and obstruction of her official duties, was released on bail today (08).
The case was taken up before Matugama Chief Magistrate Ms. M.N.M. Nanayakkara, who ordered the suspect’s release on two surety bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.
The Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the Chairman had obstructed her duties. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Munasinghe on the afternoon of January 2 and produced him before court.
Subsequently, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded until January 8. Further proceedings in the case are to be taken up on a later date.
