Emergency laws will have to be enforced for at least two more months, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala informed Parliament today.
The Minister said the extension is essential as the government is required to relocate people who were displaced by Cyclone Ditwah.
He explained that the resettlement process cannot proceed immediately in certain areas, as approval from the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) is required before displaced families can be relocated to ensure their safety.
Minister Wijepala stressed that the emergency regulations are necessary to facilitate relief, relocation, and safety measures until the resettlement process is completed.
