The Cabinet has approved a plan to put underutilized government bungalows and houses, formerly used as ministerial quarters, to more productive use.
At a Cabinet meeting held on December 9, 2024, it was decided that an Officers’ Committee be appointed to recommend a strategy for the effective and economical utilization of these properties. The committee suggested that the bungalows and houses be allocated for embassies, international organizations, diplomatic purposes, government and government-affiliated institutions, as well as high-end restaurants, boutique hotels, and other productive investment projects.
Based on these recommendations, 24 bungalows and houses have been identified for implementation under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. These properties are planned to be offered on a 30-year lease basis to ensure more productive utilization without raising social concerns.
The Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the President, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to call for expressions of interest from potential investors. This process will enable the identification of suitable investors for the properties.
