The Cabinet has approved awarding the contract for the construction of an underground concrete underpass below the Mahaiyawa railway line on the Kandy-Jaffna road (A-009).
Bids for the project were invited under the National Competitive Procurement Procedure, and three submissions were received. Following evaluation by the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee, the Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development to award the contract to M/s NEM Construction (Pvt) Ltd for Rs. 699.58 million (excluding taxes).
The project aims to improve traffic flow and enhance safety along this key section of the A-009 highway.
