Sri Lanka achieved its highest-ever tourist arrivals in 2025, with 2,362,000 visitors generating approximately USD 3.2 billion in revenue, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism announced yesterday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Minister Vijitha Herath, shared the data at a media conference held at the Ministry, highlighting tourism as one of the country’s key income-generating sectors. Despite challenges posed by Cyclone Ditwah, daily tourist arrivals remained between 10,000 and 12,000, demonstrating the resilience of the sector.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, noted that India, Russia, the United States, Poland, Australia, and China were the top source markets, while the United Kingdom, France, and Germany recorded notable growth within Europe. The government’s digital marketing strategies, airport promotions, and institutional reforms contributed to the sector’s recovery and growth.
Sri Lanka also received several international tourism awards in 2025, further strengthening its reputation as a premier travel destination.
