Senior politician Navin Dissanayake has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the United National Party (UNP) for 2026.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe confirmed the appointment in a letter to Dissanayake, noting that he will also serve as a member of the party’s Working Committee, in line with the party constitution.
The letter indicated that the Working Committee is expected to recommend Dissanayake for the position of Senior Vice Chairman. Dissanayake has been asked to formally confirm his acceptance in writing.
Party sources said the move reflects the UNP’s efforts to strengthen its organizational structure and strategic planning for the year ahead.
