A group of German investors visiting Sri Lanka is also exploring a programme to recruit and employ Sri Lankan women as nurses in Germany, amid a growing demand for elderly care services in that country.
With nearly 65 per cent of Germany’s population classified as elderly, the proposed project aims to train and deploy Sri Lankan women to work as nurses and caregivers in Germany. Under the plan, selected participants are expected to earn a monthly salary of around 2,000 euros, equivalent to approximately Rs. 700,000.
The German investor delegation, led by Professor Thomas Holdner, arrived in Sri Lanka on January 5 and is expected to stay for 14 days to hold discussions with relevant stakeholders regarding the implementation of the project.
The initiative is expected to open up high-income overseas employment opportunities for Sri Lankan women while addressing Germany’s increasing demand for skilled nursing and caregiving professionals.
