The Sri Lankan High Commission in Seychelles is closely monitoring the situation following the interception of a foreign fishing vessel within Seychelles waters, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister said.

Issuing a statement on Facebook, the Deputy Minister said the Seychelles Defence Forces had released an official statement regarding the incident. He added that the Sri Lankan High Commission remains in close contact with the relevant authorities and is carefully observing developments.

The High Commission is also extending all necessary consular assistance to the Sri Lankan nationals concerned, he said.

“We will continue to engage through official channels and provide updates as appropriate,” the Deputy Minister added.
