Prime Minister and Minister of Education Harini Amarasuriya confirmed that the new curriculum will be implemented in the upcoming academic year, starting January 21 for Grade 6 students and January 29 for Grade 1 students. She made the remarks during a special media briefing on education reforms.

The Prime Minister stated that alongside introducing the curriculum, programs have been organized to familiarize students with the new system, as well as to inform parents about the changes.

She said that attention has been paid to all related aspects, including guidance on subject selection for students.

Highlighting teacher preparation, the Prime Minister said that 7,181 “training of trainers” programs have been conducted so far, providing training to approximately 132,580 teachers, which accounts for 93% of those teaching the new modules.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya added that infrastructure development has also been prioritized to ensure schools are fully equipped to implement the reforms effectively.
