Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident reported from the Bodhiyawatta area along Saranankara Road in Kohuwala, police said.

The arrests were made yesterday (03) by officers of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau in the Kalubowila area of the Dehiwala Police Division. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Kohuwala Police Station.

Police said the suspects include the motorcycle rider involved in the incident, the individual who handled the firearm, the suspect who transported the weapon, and another who provided accommodation to the perpetrators. The four suspects are residents of the Dehiwala area, aged 25, 28, 33, and 45.

Investigations have revealed that the crime stemmed from a clash between two organized criminal groups involved in large-scale drug trafficking.

During the arrests, police recovered three revolver-type firearms, ten live 9mm cartridges, 50 grams of heroin, 55 grams of ‘ice’ narcotics, and two motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.

The incident occurred on December 30, when two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle opened fire in front of a house in the Bodhiyawatta area. A 16-year-old girl was injured in the shooting and was admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital for treatment.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Kohuwala Police.
