Motor Transport Commissioner General Kamal Amarasinghe said that 800,000 license cards have been received for the issuance of driving licenses, while 240,000 driving licenses have already been printed and their distribution has commenced.
He saidthat all remaining driving licenses will be printed and issued by February 28, replacing the temporary driving licenses currently in circulation.
The Commissioner General explained that due to a shortage of license cards, temporary driving licenses had been issued to approximately 450,000 applicants. As of yesterday (03), driving licenses had been printed for 240,000 individuals, and the remaining 210,000 licenses are scheduled to be printed and distributed before February 28.
Mr. Amarasinghe further noted that on average, between 60,000 and 80,000 new driving licenses are printed each month. He added that since sufficient license cards have now been ordered, a similar shortage is unlikely to occur again.
