The Nooriya Police have launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a 14-year-old boy residing in Nooriyawatte 02, within the Nooriya Police Division.
Police said they received a complaint last night (02) that the child was being assaulted. Officers who rushed to the scene found the boy lying near a house. He was immediately admitted to the Nooriya Hospital, where the attending medical officer confirmed that the child was already deceased.
As the circumstances surrounding the death are considered suspicious, the body has been placed at the Avissawella Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The father of the child has been arrested by the Nooriya Police on suspicion of murder. Further investigations are ongoing.
