Public cooperation played a crucial role in helping Sri Lanka surpass US$ 1 billion in coconut export earnings in 2025, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe said.

Speaking at a media briefing held in January 2025, the Deputy Minister had predicted that coconut export revenue would exceed US$ 1 billion by the end of the year and called for minimizing coconut consumption and waste at the local level.

Following the briefing, awareness on efficient coconut consumption gained widespread public attention. Deputy Minister Abeysinghe later expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and members of the public who helped disseminate the message, noting that their support contributed to the sector’s strong export performance.

He stressed that continued public awareness and responsible consumption patterns would be vital in sustaining growth in the coconut export industry.
